How to create high‑converting polls

Practical tips on writing questions, structuring options, and using media so more people complete your polls.

Best practices for creating polls and understanding the votes you receive.

Start with one clear decision

Every great poll starts with a single decision you want to make. If you can’t explain that decision in one sentence, your poll is probably trying to do too much.

Write your poll question last. First, define the decision, then the options, then rewrite the question so it directly leads to the decision you want to make.

Keep options mutually exclusive and complete

People abandon polls when they can’t find themselves in the options. Make sure each option is clearly different from the others, and that together they cover the full range of likely answers.

If you’re unsure, add an "Other" option and let voters type a short free‑text answer. You can turn common responses into new options in future polls.

Use media to increase engagement, not distract

Images and video can make a poll more memorable, especially for brand or product questions. Use media when it adds clarity — for example, comparing design concepts — rather than as decoration.
